Mind The Gap

Costumes are as done as they can get, and we are packed up and waiting for our cohorts to get here to start the drive up.  The wings and gloves will be a little more ghetto than I had hoped, but I think they will be passable.  My costume is a bit tighter than I’d prefer, but I’m still damn surprised the dress would fit at all, so I’ll take it.

I’ll only look like the character I’m dressed as when I’m with the guys in their costumes, otherwise I’ll just look like a Jacquie O Go-Go Girl.  I also packed up a second costume (if a collection of spooky goth stuff I already owned counts as a costume, and I think it does) in case an appropriate opportunity arises.

This should be fun.  I wish I had a better camera that I could take along.  Maybe I’ll pick up a couple disposables on the way.

Costumes are nearly done, just trying to finish the wings, and I ran out of stinkin’ glue!  Off to the store. Overslept today which basically eliminates any time I would have had to work on my own costume.  Lame.

One pair of boot tops is done!  Still need to finish the other two pairs, and devise a good way to attach them to the shoes.  Goggles and belt buckles are done.  Cowls are done.  Need to add velcro to help the belt-pouch-things stay closed when in use.  Need to do the wings.  Need to sort out the gloves.
At this rate, I may be able to finish the costumes by noon tomorrow and then start on my own costume, which will undoubtedly be much less detailed, since we need to leave for Atlanta tomorrow afternoon.

Two of the three shirts for the costumes are done, and many supplies have been procured.
To do list:

• Obtain/fabricate cowls (sp?) and add antennae
• Dye canvas shoes and design/sew/attach the boot tops
• Obtain cheap belts with flat buckles, cover belt in yellow fabric, create foam-core butterfly, paint it, and attach to buckle.
• Sew man-purse pouches that attach to belts
• Hem/Cuff shorts
• Add snaps to attach shirt to shorts so as to keep it tucked in
• Obtain black tights or more comfortable equivalent
• Buy and dye gloves (costume shop maybe?) may have to sew extensions for gloves to make them tall enough
• Wings: obtain black elastic, possibly more snaps/hook&eye closures, wire, and any necessary tools.  Build wing parts with the wire and cover with orange fabric.  Use elastic and closures with existing materials to build the harness to wear the wings and to hold them open.  (only need two sets)
• Procure red film of some sort for lenses on goggles – spray paint crappy sunglasses and knock out lenses, cut foam-core and paint, attach film, attach to sunglasses frames…Might opt to leave lenses in and just have them dark instead of red.

After that, determine and start my own costume.

I started sewing costumes for dragon con last night!

Here is what I wish they would look like when finished.  There will be three henchmen.

I’ll settle for some close approximation, as I doubt my sewing skills will produce anything too fancy.

I was initially going to be Triana (sp?) but with the henchmen and all, I might choose to be Dr Girlfriend…possibly her as Queen Etherea (again sp?) if I can work out a less revealing and more flattering version of her costume.

Got the outlined flames on my back piece colored in (finally), and got my celtic knot thing touched up.  Done by Suzi Tattuzi here in town.  (See the tattoos page for a picture.)
Her (previously broken) wrists are much better and she’s able to start doing some tattooing again. She rocks and you should make an appointment to see her if you are getting work done here in Gainesville.
